Leroy Schlehuber went home to be with his Lord and Savior on April 19, 2020. He was 84 years old. James “Leroy” Schlehuber was born on May 29, 1935 on his grandparent’s farm north of Morrison to Edna Elnora (Clark) and Paul Knight Schlehuber. Leroy’s paternal and maternal grandparents had farms across from each other and he spent a lot time there with his sister Beverly Jan and whatever cousins were there at the time.
He was an industrious young man. His first job was a paper route for the Ponca City and Oklahoman newspapers. His father purchased him a bike from Ponca City for this purpose. He was also known to ride that bike from Morrison to his grandparents’ farms.
He attended and graduated from Morrison School. He worked during his junior and senior years in the oil patch. After graduation he continued working in the oil fields along with his father. He worked there until 1959 when he left and worked for Bitman in Tonkawa. In 1960 he moved back to Morrison and went to work for the State Highway Department in Noble County. Leroy worked at the Highway Department until his retirement on May 31, 1997. He then drove a bus for Morrison School for six years.
Leroy and Jerri Boyce were married on January 12, 1957. They had three children from this union; Diana Lynn, Donna Sue and Ronald James. They were divorced in 1984. Leroy then married his soul mate Mary Alice Clark Madden on October 3, 1985. Mary added four sons to the family, Frank, Michael, Greg and Ron, that were loved by Leroy as his own. They were blissfully happy until Mary’s passing in 2015.
Leroy enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, traveling, bowling, reading and watching Hallmark movies with Mary.
He is survived by his sister Jan Bales; daughters Diana (Jim) Price, Donna (Ron) Simpson; sons Ronnie (Saprina) Schlehuber, Michael Madden, Greg (Joan) Madden, Ron (Robin) Madden; grandchildren Jason Price, Lisa Price, Jaime Roberts, Riann Clark, Craig Price, Matt Schlehuber, Jordan Madden, Jacob Madden, Eric Schlehuber, Patrick Madden, Kelly Madden and Greg Madden, Jr. He is survived by 12 great grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins. Leroy was predeceased by his wife Mary, parents Paul Schlehuber and Elnora Sappington, grandparents AP and Myrtle Clark and Charles and Margaret Schlehuber.
The family would like to say a special Thank You to the staff members of Perry Hospital and Southern Oaks for their loving and dedicated care of their father.
