They began their life together travelling the country for various jobs and eventually settled in Commerce City, Colorado where he was the plant manager of Ardco Corporation. In 1979, Joe relocated his family back to Stillwater where he owned many small businesses. In the mid 80s, Joe opened up Joe Brown Sand and Gravel, which he operated until his death. Joe was the best gravel spreader around, just ask anyone.
Joe’s hobbies included watching NASCAR, racing stock cars, and working but his greatest joy was spending time with his family. He was so proud, and often spoke of, the legacy he knew he would leave behind some day.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents Albert and Cora, brothers Paul Brown and Leon Brown, one sister Sarah Bradley, and his son-in-law Rick Perry.

He is also survived by his sister Ruth Woolworth and husband Wesley, sister-in-laws Sallie Brown and Noreen Brown, and brother-in-law Laverne Bradley.
Above all else, Joe was a dedicated husband, loving father, brother, uncle, a really fun G-Pa, and a believer in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
