Ron Sweezy, 64, of El Reno, passed from this life on August 11, 2016 with his family by his side. Services have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home and a graveside will be held on Monday, August 15th at 10am at the Otoe-Missouria Tribal Cemetery in Red Rock. Visitation will begin at 2pm Sunday, August 14th at the Otoe - Missouria Baptist Church, prayer service at 7.p.m.
Ronald Dean Sweezy Sr.was born on June 22, 1952 in Pawnee, OK to Merle Everette Sweezy and Flora Luna Cline Sweezy. Ron was an enrolled member of the Cheyenne-Arapaho tribe and descendent of Otoe-Missouria tribe from the Carson family and of the Beaver Clan. Ron was a standout athlete in high school where he excelled at football and art. Following high school, Ron enlisted in the US Navy where he served honorably until receiving a medical discharge in 1972. Later that year he enrolled in the Institute of American Indian Art in Santa Fe, NM. He used the many skills he learned to become a talented professional artist and sculptor. Ron also spent several years working as a copper miner in Tuscon, AZ as well as working at the Otoe-Missouria Senior Citizens Center in Red Rock.
Ron was an easy going guy who enjoyed life. He loved listening to music and he could fix nearly anything his friends or family could break. Ron found enjoyment in serving others and always prioritized the needs of others above his own. Those who knew Ron best knew that he was never happier than when he was surrounded by his family. He was a loving brother, a caring father, and a loyal friend and he will be missed by all who knew him.
Ron was preceded in death by his father Merle Everette Sweezy ; mother Flora Luna Cline; brother Joseph Ivan Cline; two infant brothers; step father, Ivan Cline and Georgia Felix who was the mother of his sons Ron Jr and Anthony Sweezy.
Ron is survived by 4 children: Ronald Dean Sweezy Jr, Anthony Big Man Sweezy, Watan Sweezy, and Daniel Sweezy. 9 siblings: Ellen Lorie Sweezy Whitebird of Queens Creek, AZ, Charles Edward Sweezy of OKC, Michael Everette Sweezy of OKC, twin sister Donna Rush of El Reno, Addie Jo Tohee of Red Rock, Jimmy Dale Cline of Norman, OK, Steven Cline of Seligman, MO, George Cline, Frank Carson of Stillwater, OK; 2 uncles, Ed Carillo of Ponca City, OK and Tony Jo Romero of OKC; 1 aunt Cynthia Barnes of Red Rock, OK. 10 grandchildren: Abby Sweezy, Ezra Sweezy, Anthony Sweezy, Carl Sweezy, George Sweezy, Sophie Sweezy, Daniel Sweezy, Kailee Sweezy, Auston Sweezy, and Nadine Sweezy. He is also survived by many cousins, and a host of friends.
