Shirley Jean Austell passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 in Glencoe due to a auto accident. She was 70. Funeral services have been entrusted to the care of Dighton-Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater.
Shirley was born June 30, 1952 in Quinton, Oklahoma to Roy and Mildred (Price) Selby. At a very young age her family moved to Stillwater where she attended school, established her roots, and started a family. She graduated A Pioneer in 1970. She and Larry “Mack” Austell were married March 21, 1980 in Stillwater. Although they had only been married 43 years, they have known each other since their teenage years. As Mack stated, “not only was she my wife, she was my best friend.”
She had a true servants heart. Whether it was in her waitressing jobs, volunteering at Karman Korner (where she was headed Tuesday morning when the accident occurred), or serving in her church. Shirley loved to serve. She was strong in her faith and loved the Lord with all her heart. Her Wednesday morning Bible Studies held at Karen Brunken’s home with Ann, Margie, Ruthie, and Shirley were always a highlight of her week. She was always eager to bring some kind of refreshment to share with the ladies while they studied God’s word. She also enjoyed working with the children on Sunday’s at Life Church here in Stillwater. She will be greatly missed with her untimely passing, but we are comforted to know that her faith is now complete.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 43 years, Larry “Mack” Austell of the home; daughter, Angie Austell of Stillwater, Oklahoma; grandson, Ace Barnaba of Glencoe; sister, Joy Selby of Stillwater, Oklahoma; and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Roylynn Davis.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 13, 2023 from 9AM to 8PM at Dighton-Marler Funeral Home, Stillwater. A Celebration of Shirley’s life will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at 2PM at the funeral home with Charles Cox officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Stillwater.
