Tashia Yvette Williams, 45, of Perkins, passed peacefully from this life on September 11, 2013 at her home. Services have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home and a service celebrating Tashias life will be held at 10:00am Saturday, Sept 14 at the Christian Church in Perkins, OK.
Tashia was born on March 31, 1968 in Lake Village, AR to Les and Vicki (Cottman) Shirley. Shortly after her birth, her family relocated to Stillwater, OK where she attended elementary and middle school. Tashia moved to Perkins where she attended high School. Following high school, she received her C.M.A. certificate and began working for Stillwater Nursing Home and Home Call Home Healthcare. Tashia moved to Temple, TX where she worked managing a Diamond Shamrock Station. While working at the station, she met and began dating her Budweiser delivery driver, Johnny Bruce. Not long after, Johnny purposed to Tashia in the cooler of her store.
In 1999, Tashia and Johnny moved to Perkins, OK to be closer to Tashias family. She worked as a private home health aide until heath issues forced her into an early retirement and allowed her to stay at home and take care of her children. In 2004, Tashia lost her vision but not her ability to be a caretaker. She spent 6 years taking care of her ailing mother until her moms passing in 2012. Although the loss of her eyesight was difficult, Tashia rarely complained about her disability. She kept a positive outlook and in 2012 she underwent a surgery that restored her eyesight.
Tashia loved her family and was very proud of her children. She supported them by attending their sporting events and activities. She also had a profound love for animals, especially her two dogs Banks and Charlie. Tashia enjoyed spending time at the casino, gardening, cleaning, and supporting her OK State Cowboys. She loved The Price is Right and she made a mean meatloaf dinner. While watching Duck Dynasty made her happy, happy, happy, she was never happier then when she was surrounded by her family. Tashia was a loving, ornery, and generous woman who loved to make other smile. She was religious, selfless, and fiercely protective of her family and friends. She touched many live and she will be missed by all who knew her.
Tashia was preceeded in death by her mother, Vicki Shirley; an infant sister, Shelly Williams; and a grandpa, D.K. Cottman. She is survived by the love of her life and best friend, Johnny Bruce; two children, Marc and Hailey Williams; her father, Les Shirley; a brother, Bobby (Alisa) Shirley; a sister, Chrissi Hayes; grandma, Gerri Cottman; a sister-cousin, Melissa Powers; and a close friend, Candy Baglin.
In Lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the City of Perkins for the Animal Control Bldg Fund in care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home, 5106 N. Washington, Stillwater, OK 74075.
