Alta Mae Nicholson 77, of Stillwater, Oklahoma passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2016 in Oklahoma City, OK. Services have been entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Stillwater. Visitation will be 9AM to 8PM on Wednesday, May 17, 2016 at the funeral home with family receiving guest from 6PM-8PM. Funeral Services are scheduled for 11AM Thursday, May 19, 2016 in the chapel at Palmer Marler Funeral Home, officiated by Bro. Buddy Moore, interment will follow at Glencoe South Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Shane Woods, Richard Nicholson, Jim Wilson, Mike Moser, Matthew Parsel, and Marty Burch. Honorary pallbearers are Jim Moser and Boyd Haydock.
Alta was born February 18, 1939 in Glencoe, Oklahoma to John W. and Crescilda (Dorman) Cook. She grew up in the Glencoe and Stillwater area where she attended school and graduated from Stillwater High School. Alta married C. W. Nick Nicholson on November 15, 1959 in Las Vegas, NV. She worked several years in the O.S.U. Bookstore as a clerk typist.
She had many hobbies and interests that include sewing, embroidering, quilting, playing dice, and reading. Alta dearly loved to go dancing any time the opportunity arose. She also had a great passion for red roses. Because of her unselfishness, you would always find her thinking and doing for others before herself. Thats just who she was.
Alta is survived by her husband Nick of the home. Children: Richard Nicholson and wife Connie of Perkins, OK. Kristy Burch and husband Marty of Morrison, OK. Roger Nicholson and wife Starla of Ontario, OR; and one daughter-in-law Dana Nicholson of Stillwater, OK. Two sisters Margie Moser and husband Jim of Perkins, OK, and Ella Wilson and husband Jim of Paris, TN. One brother, Johnny Cook and wife Irene of Florida. Six grandchildren: Monique Nicholson, Meagan Nicholson, Rebecca Durfee, Allen Nicholson, Dustin Nicholson, and Aubree Nicholson; three great grandchildren; nephews: Mike Moser and wife Connie of Tryon, OK, Earl Cook of Stillwater, OK, and John Cook; a very special Niece Carri Camp of Stillwater, OK., and a host of other family and friends.
Alta was preceded in death by a son, Steve Nicholson in 2003, a brother, Buddy Cook in 2001, and a grandson, Casey Nicholson in 2005.
Alta was fortunate to live the past 16 years due to being an organ donation recipient. The family would like to encourage everyone to strongly consider organ donation.
