Alvin Eugene Wilson

Alvin Eugene "Gene" Wilson, 72, of Perry, passed from this life on June 3, 2013 with his loving family at his side. Services have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home and will be held at Calvary Baptist Church in Perry on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at 2pm. Due to the size of the Wilson family, friends will be seated in the Calvary Baptist Church Annex across the street from the church. Video of the service will be streamed live. Burial will follow at Grace Hill Cemetery in Perry. Public visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 4 from 11am to 8pm with the family greeting friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8pm. Gene was born August 3, 1940 to Alvin M. Wilson and Evelyn "Cooper" Wilson in Micawber, Oklahoma. He grew up in Welty, Ok and attended Mason High School graduating in 1958. After graduating Gene joined the Army in August of 1959 where he served for three years. On October 29, 1959 he married the love of his life Phyllis Taylor in Last Chance, Oklahoma at the home of Walter & Thelma Taylor. Gene spent most of his life working in the oil field then retiring after 10yrs as a machinist for The Charles Machine Works in Perry, Oklahoma. Gene loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and gardening. He enjoyed reading western books and traveling around the country with his wife and grandchildren. Gene was a man who prioritized his family above all else. He found joy in teaching his grandchildren hunting safety and teaching his children how to drive, well before the legal age. Gene was a generous man, who was known for the quality produce he grew and sold around the Perry area, but he gave away much more than he ever sold. Gene was selfless and always put others needs before his own. When his daughters were in 4-H at school he realized that 4-H needed a male sponsor. Gene gladly accepted the challenge, even though he did not have a son in the group at the time. That"s just the type of guy he was. Gene was ornery and always had a story to tell. Most importantly, he was a wonderful grandpa. He was adored by his grandchildren and Gene was meant to be a grandpa. He was never happier than when he was surrounded by his kids and grandkids. Gene was a loving husband, a dedicated father, a proud grandfather, a dependable employee and a loyal friend. Gene left an indelible mark on so many lives and will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife Phyllis, of the home. Three daughters: Genia and husband Tony Gore, Tuttle, OK, Suzanne Wilson, Guthrie, OK, and Cathy and husband Larry Miller, Perry, OK. Three Sons: Doyle Wilson, Stillwater, Ok, Wayne and wife Heather Wilson and Alan and wife Nancy Wilson both of Perry, OK. 26 Grandchildren, Derrick, Kyle and Makinze Gore, Leslea Wagner, Brent Hodge, Laynea Blanchard, Trey Wilson, Luke Hubbard, Matthew and Erik Burke, Mallory Tyler, Madison, Karleigh, Andrew and Khristina Miller, Amber and Chelsea Wilson, Marissa Johnson, Mick Wilson, Taylyne Simpson, Mariah, Nolan, Gabby, Gina and Perry Wilson and D.K. Billy. His mother: Evelyn Fisher of Stilwell, OK. 10 great grandchildren. Two brothers, Garry Wilson, Perry, OK and Don Wilson, Carthage, TX and one sister, Joan Hatfield, Stilwell, OK. He was preceded in death by both sets of Grandparents, father Alvin Wilson and one sister, Mae Dean Cotter.
