Arthur Art L. Emery

Funeral services for Arthur "Art" L. Emery are scheduled for Thursday, November 6, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at the Perry Funeral Home Chapel with Sid Davis officiating. There will be private graveside services. Art Emery was born February 9, 1917 to Walter and Laura (Hanes) Emery in Castleton, Kansas, and attended schools there. He was one of five children. He farmed and worked around the oil fields most of his life when he met Zella Rose Morgan of Perry and they married on December 27, 1945. Together they made their first home at Hunter, Oklahoma and operated a commercial harvesting business. There a son Leland was born and died shortly after birth. Later they moved to Lamont to farm and he work in the oil field business. There three daughters were born. The family lived at Lamont area for a several years before purchasing their first home and farm northwest of Perry in 1959. In addition to operating his farm, he operated a feedlot at the farm and he owned and operated the Emery"s Dozer Service before retiring in 1997. Art lived there at the farm he loved until 2002 before moving to Enid and later moved to Stillwater in 2004. During his lifetime, Art was a former member of the Masonic Lodge of Perry, obtained the 32nd degree of Master Masons, and was a former member of the Enid Shriners organization and the Moose Lodge in Enid. His hobbies included trap shooting and dancing. One of his sweetest memories was winning the Oklahoma State Trap Shoot Championship contest in Oklahoma City five consecutive years in the late 1950"s. Art passed from this life on November 3, 2008 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son, one sister and two brothers. Survivors include one step-son, Leroy (Gerry) Smith and wife Sandy of Amarillo, Texas, three daughters, Marsha Hubble and husband Fred of Tuttle, Oklahoma, Mary Morris and husband Gary of Stillwater, Alice Emory and husband Chad of Oklahoma City, five grandchildren, Kwinsi McKee and husband Kris of Norman, Reed Shelton of Oklahoma City, Troy Karcher and wife Dallas of Perry, Katie Bowman and husband Jason of Oklahoma City, and Cassie Martin of Oklahoma City, Justin Morris and wife Shelby, Kyle Morris of Oklahoma City, five great grandchildren, one sister Pearl Sharrock of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, and several nephews and nieces.
