On March 20, 2025, heaven gained a beautiful angel when Barbara Ann (Trumbla) Overholt peacefully passed into the arms of Jesus, surrounded by her devoted husband of 74 years, Darrel, and their four daughters.
Barbara was born on July 19, 1931 to Eddie and Peggy Trumbla in Perry, Oklahoma. She moved to Stillwater when she was in the 8th grade and went onto graduate from Stillwater High School in 1949. A beloved member of her senior class, she was crowned both football homecoming queen and band queen. A talented cornet player, Barbara frequently had the honor of performing Taps at military funerals. She furthered her education with classes at Oklahoma A&M while also working as a secretary for the Agriculture Department and at Osborn Photography Studio.
On February 9, 1951, Barbara married her sweetheart, Darrel W. Overholt. They had their first daughter, Becky, later that year, and their family grew as Darrel's work managing cattle farms took them to various different states and Canada. After welcoming three more daughters, Ora, Karen, and Allyn, the family eventually settled back in Stillwater in 1959, where they put down roots and raised their daughters.
Barbara's love for life extended to many passions. A gifted golfer, she earned the ultimate reward of two holes-in-one, a rare achievement she cherished. She enjoyed this hobby all the way until the age of 89. As a dedicated mother and homemaker, she poured love and creativity into everything she did, from sewing beautiful wardrobes for her daughters to maintaining a warm, loving home. Barbara was also an active member of various clubs, including the Women’s Golf Association, Kappa Delta Sorority, OSU Mom’s Club, PEO, and several bridge groups. Together with Darrel, she was a faithful member of the Stillwater First United Methodist Church.
Above all, Barbara was a cherished grandmother and great-grandmother. Known lovingly as “Mime” to her seven grandchildren — Christian Whitney, Jared Szlichta, Abby Morgan, Valerie Revillas, Lindsey Stucky, Marcie Hatley, and Jordan Bigelow — she was an integral part of their lives. She was also blessed with fourteen great-grandchildren: Isla Whitney, Isaac Szlichta, Hailey, Madison, Kori, and Kodi Kastl, Brianna and Danielle Revillas, Cason and Melaina Stucky, Addisyn and Raelyn Hatley, and Harper Bigelow.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Mary Jo Parker and Jon Trumbla, her son-in-law Roy McKinney, and her great-grandson Robbie Revillas III.
Those left to honor and remember Barbara’s remarkable life are her loving husband Darrel; her daughters Becky Szlichta, Ora Morgan, Karen McKinney, and Allyn Bigelow (Jim); as well as her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a wide circle of friends. Barbara will be profoundly missed, but her memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
Viewing will be 9AM until 8PM Thursday, March 27, 2025 at Dighton-Marler Funeral Home in Stillwater. A Celebration of Barbara's life will held on Friday, March 28, 2025 at 1PM at the First United Methodist Church here in Stillwater. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens after a reception at the church. Jared Szlichta, Isaac Szlichta, Jordan Bigelow, Robert Revillas, Rick Hatley, Zach Stucky, and Barrett Whitney will serve as pallbearers.
