Barbara Sue Lewis

January 5, 1936 — October 9, 2014

Barbara Sue Lewis, 78, of Morrison passed from this life on October 9, 2014 at her home. A public visitation will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2014 from 1pm to 6pm at the Palmer Marler Funeral Home.

Barbara was born on January 5, 1936 in McPherson, KS to Clyde and Arizona (Evans) Brumback. In the 1950s she moved to Morrison, OK where she attended schools, graduating from Morrison High School. Shortly after her graduation she moved to OKC where she was employed in the inventory control dept of Sears. Several years later she relocated to Waco, TX where she worked in a plant that supplied bombs to the U.S. Government.

In the early 1970s she moved to Brownsville, TX after meeting her best friend and soul mate, Vernon Lewis. Barbara and Vernon were married on April 28, 1974. While in Brownsville, Vernon taught Barbara how to drive a semi truck and she became one of the first female long-haul truck drivers in the country. She enjoyed truck driving for more than three decades before retiring in 2002. Barbara and Vernon lived briefly in Dallas and Garland, TX before settling in the Stigler, OK area for 25 years. Recently, Barbara and Vernon moved to |Morrison, OK to be near their family.

Barbara was an independent woman who was as stubborn and competitive as she was generous and loving. She enjoyed going to garage sales, casinos, and playing cards and bingo with her friends and family. She never rested or sat down and her favorite way to spend a lazy afternoon was to mow her yard and the yard of anyone near her. Barbara was a loyal wife, a loving mother, a proud grandma, a trusted friend, and a hard worker who finished anything and everything she ever put her mind to doing. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, a son Randy Lovekamp, and four siblings: Jim Brumback, Lib Brumback, Betty James, and Joann Duff. She is survived by her husband and love of her life Vernon Lewis. Three children: Thomas LoveKamp and wife Cinda, Toni Jackson and husband Dennis, and Pam Hiller and husband Mike.
