Burton Richard Coate, age 98, a longtime Perkins resident passed peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 in Perkins, Oklahoma.
Born in Murrayville, Illinois on August 21, 1924 to O. V. and Irene Burton grew up and attend school in Guthrie, Oklahoma graduating from Guthrie High School in 1948. Later after graduation he enlisted in the Army Air Force where he served his country proudly in WWII. When returning home he went on to attend Watch Repairman School in Wetherford, Oklahoma. After his time in the service, he met the love of his life Margaret Ann (Henderson). They were united in marriage on November 10, 1948 at Burton’s sister’s house in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. They were blessed with 73 years till her passing in 2021.
Burton had a love for traveling and most of all spending time with his family was always a highlight he looked forward to.
Burton was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife Margaret Coate; one grandson, Chris Davis; and two Sons-in-law, Patrick McKay, and Ray Gazaway.
Burton is survived by his five children, Patricia McKay Cushing, Oklahoma, Elaine Coate of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Rita Vogt and husband Jim of Cushing, Oklahoma, Richard Coate and wife Janice of Perkins, Oklahoma, Cathryn Gazaway of Perkins, Oklahoma; his grandchildren, Jami Vogt, Jarrod Vogt, Laura Jenkins and husband Jason, Amy Coomer and husband Michael, Darla Baker-Hurst and Aaron Behrenbrinker, Jessica Moye; thirteen great grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Dighton Marler Funeral Home Chapel in Stillwater, with Pastor Chad Handy officiating. Interment will follow at the Perkins Cemetery, in Perkins.
