Carolyn Overton

August 30, 1931 — April 1, 2012

Carolyn Grindstaff Overton, 80, beloved wife of the late Robert L. Overton, went to be with her heavenly Father on Sunday, April 1, 2012 at her home in Stillwater with her family by her side. She was born August 30, 1931 in Stillwater, Oklahoma to Earl Carl Grindstaff and Garnett Gladys Grindstaff. Carol attended school in Stillwater and went on to attend Oklahoma State University and was a proud member of the Chi Omega sorority. While attending she met the love of her life, Bob Overton. Carol and Bob were married August 16, 1952. In lieu of a career outside the home, Carol chose what she considered to be her highest calling: to raise a family.
Carol and Bob moved from Stillwater to Maryland while Bob was in the Army. Shortly thereafter they moved to San Diego where they were founding members of the San Carlos Methodist Church. Carol and Bob moved back to Stillwater to raise their family.
Carol loved music and in her younger years could be heard singing on the radio in Tulsa. She was also an accomplished seamstress and designed the entire wardrobe for her childrens musical group, The Overtons, as they traveled and performed throughout the country in the 1970s and 1980s. Carol also loved cooking and gardening.
Carol was a devoted wife and mother of four children: Bob, Tamara, Kendall and Lori; and was blessed with the opportunity to be a second Mother to her first grandchild, Robert Overton-Ellis.
Carol is survived by her daughter, Tamara Carol Overton and Lloyd N. Salsman of the home; Bob Overton, his wife Nancy, and their children -- Kendyl and Carolyn of Stillwater; Kendall Overton, his wife Twyla, and their children -- Ashlee and Mallory of Oologah; and Lori Overton Taylor, her husband Chad, and their son Samuel of Tulsa; her grandson Robert Overton Ellis and his wife Sherry of Noble; her brother Kendall Earl Grindstaff, his wife Lucille Grindstaff, and their children (her nephews) -- Rick Grindstaff, Kirk Grindstaff and his wife Jen of Stillwater; nephews Gary Phillips and his wife Joyce of El Cajon, CA; Bobby Phillips and his wife Kim of San Diego, CA; Mark Phillips and his wife Patti of San Diego, CA and Jim Phillips and his wife Anne of Santa Cruz, CA; and great nieces and nephews.
Carol was predeceased in death by her parents Earl and Garnett Grindstaff; and sister-in-law Betty Overton Phillips and her husband Paul McSpadden Phillips.
Services for Carolyn Grindstaff Overton will be on Friday, April 6th at 10:30 a.m. at Palmer Marler Funeral Home Chapel. Charles Baker will be officiating. Honorary pallbearers are: Rick Grindstaff, Kirk Grindstaff, Bobby Phillips, Mark Phillips, Robert Overton-Ellis, and Lloyd N. Salsman.
