Charlene Lowry

Charlene Bert Lowry, 72, of Glencoe passed away September 27, 2013 surrounded by family. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 5, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Glencoe, Oklahoma.

Charlene was born January 2, 1941 in Buffalo, OK to George and Anna Maxine (Wendling) Dickens. While growing up, Charlene attended school in Buffalo and graduated from Fallott High School in Fallott, Texas. After high school, Charlene worked in Ponca City for a period of time before meeting John Lowry.

Charlene married John Leon Lowry October 7, 1961. Once married, they had two children, John and Shon, and eventually settling in Glencoe, OK. They moved all around Oklahoma, Iowa, and even out to Las Vegas but always seemed to find their way back to Glencoe. While living in Glencoe, Charlene had several jobs over the years, she worked at the school and at the local grocery store, but her last job was at Rubys Flea Market. Charlene became very well-known while working at Rubys. She would know every person once they walked through that door and try to make their day. Charlenes interests included taking care of her children and family, gardening, and singing. She would sing country and gospel music. Many times while attending First United Methodist Church, she was asked to sing solos, because she had a beautiful voice and wanted to share it with everyone.

Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, George Dickens and Anna Maxine (Wendling) Dickens Younger; and one son, John Henry Lowry. Survivors include her husband, John Leon Lowry of the home; one daughter, Shon (Lowry) Treat and husband, Kevin of Glencoe, OK; daughter-in-law, Virginia Lowry of Perkins, OK; brother, Henry Dickens and wife, Shirley of Glencoe, OK; two grandchildren, Shelbey Treat of Carthage, MO, Ashley Treat of Glencoe, OK; two great grandchildren, Zariah and Keagan Huerta of Carthage, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
