Charles Andrew Ray, Sr.

Funeral services for Charles Andrew Ray, Sr., 74, of Stillwater are scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at Glencoe United Methodist Church with Pastor Ron Weathers officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00 6:00 p.m. Sunday and 8:00 8:00 on Monday at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Stillwater.
Charles was born on August 6, 1935 near Walters, OK to Andrew Sidney and Olive Priscilla (Reading) Ray. He grew up and attended schools in Walters, graduating from high school. After graduation, he joined the National Guard and served for eight years. After his discharge, he farmed and ranched in Cotton County. Charles married Margie Sturgess on December 6, 1974 in Walters, OK. The couple moved to Stillwater in 1986. He began working for the City of Stillwater the same year, where he remained until he retired as the Crew Chief of the Parks Department in 2000. He was a member of Glencoe United Methodist Church for many years where he served on the board of trustees. He loved the church, often constructing much needed cabinets and remodeling when needed. His hobbies included woodworking, working in the yard, gardening, and baking. Charles passed from this life on Friday, October 16, 2009 in Stillwater.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, John Scott Ray.
He is survived by his wife, Margie of the home; children, Debbie Hudman and husband, Chris of Geronimo, OK, Ruth Ann Harp and husband, Blair of Tulsa, OK, Charles Andrew Chuck Ray, Jr. and wife, Amanda of La Conner, WA, Adrean Sturgess of Alamosa, CO, and Kevin Sturgess of Alamagordo, NM; one brother, Cleo Ray of Walters, OK; 11 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Memorial donations may be made in Charles name to the Glencoe United Methodist Church or the Walters Cemetery Association c/o Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Stillwater.
