Charles E. "Chuck" Nuttle of Perry passed from this life on Dec 6, 2014, at the age of 77. Chuck was born on Feb. 9, 1937, to Clare and Fay (Roley) Nuttle on a farm near Pawnee. He grew up in Pawnee, where the family raised registered Herefords and small grain crops. He graduated from Pawnee High School with the "Fabulous Class of 55." On Oct. 19, 1961, Chuck married the love of his life and his best friend Nila Nelson. The couple was married for 53 years and had four children. They resided in Perry for nearly 25 years before relocating to Claremore in the late 1980"s. His entire career was spent in conservation, starting as a part-time employee with the Pawnee County Conservation District from 1956 to 1959 as a surveyor and grass planter. In April, 1959, he joined the Soil Conservation Service, working primarily in Bristow, Ada, Perry and later Claremore. After providing technical assistance on 550 flood control dams and 11 abandoned mine sites in 42 counties across the state, he retired in 1993. His retirement was very short-lived. With his reputation as a hard-working, dedicated professional, the Oklahoma Conservation Commission convinced him to come to work as a mine site project inspector for the Abandoned Mine Land Reclamation Project in 1993. After 20 plus years Chuck retired for good in early fall 2013 and shortly thereafter Chuck and Nila returned to Perry to be near their grandchildren and great grandchildren. Chuck also served over 40 years in the Oklahoma Army National Guard. He rose to the rank of infantry battalion command sergeant major with responsibility for 750 soldiers. His training of soldiers for marksmanship using pistols, rifles, machine guns and sniper system rifles was legendary within the ranks of the Oklahoma Guard. He was one of few marksmen in the state to be named to the Governor's 20 in both pistol and rifle shooting. Faith was the cornerstone of Chuck's life. He served as a deacon and elder at Perry First Christian Church in the '70s and '80s, and he and Nila both served as deacons at Claremore First Christian Church. He also enjoyed playing golf and getting together with his Class of '55 classmates. He enjoyed acting as class historian, documenting reunions and activities and compiling a keepsake booklet for each classmate. He also loved to travel with Nila and had been to most states, as well as Canada, Mexico, Cayman Islands, Europe and Egypt. Chuck was truly made to be a grandpa and nothing made him happier than to be surrounded by his children, and grand and great grand children. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Donna Gay Nuttle, and a son, Rodney Charles Nuttle. He is survived by his wife, Nila Nuttle of Perry; two daughters, Carmen Tetik and husband, Roger, of Perry, and Andrea Tyrrell and husband, Paul, of Tulsa; seven grandchildren, Whitney James and husband, Kyle, Ryan Dilbeck and wife, Crystal, Quinton Tetik and wife, Amanda, Treynor Tetik, Spencer Tetik, Caleb Tyrrell, and Alexander Tyrrell; four great-grandchildren, Aiden, Avery, Gabrielle and Jonah; and, a half-sister, Grace Slaughter of Birmingham, Ala. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Christian Church in Perry with burial following at Glencoe I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Public visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday with the family greeting friends at Palmer Marler Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. The family requests that donations be made in Chuck's name to Perry First Christian Church or to Folds of Honor in care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home; 203 Fir St.; Perry, OK 73077 Condolences may be sent to the family via an online guestbook at www.perrycares.com
