Claude Clayton Ellington passed away peacefully on Friday, March 9, 2018 at Southern Oaks Care Center in Pawnee, OK. He was 96. Funeral services have been entrusted to the care of Dighton-Marler Funeral Home in Stillwater, OK.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 10:30 AM Thursday, March 15, 2018 at First United Methodist Church in Glencoe, OK, with Pastor Ralph Wangler officiating. Interment will follow at Glencoe South Cemetery in Glencoe, OK, with military honors. Pallbearers are Sean Ellington, Rocky Marble, Chip Marble, Glenn Ellington, Bill Ellington, Don Ellington, Don Meissner, Charlie Sayre, Tom Sayre, Jack Stephens, Eric Meissner, and Ian Ellington.
Visitation will be 9AM to 5PM Tuesday, March 13, 2018 and 9AM to 8PM Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at Dighton-Marler Funeral Home in Stillwater, OK.
Claude was born January 2, 1922 on the family farm in Payne County to Chesney and Esther (Taulman) Ellington. He attended Glencoe and Pawnee schools, and graduated from Maramec High School in 1941. After graduation he joined the U.S. Coast Guard Service in 1942 where he served his country for the next four years and received an Honorable Discharge in December 1945. On November 15, 1947 he married a beautiful young lady, Ms. Nola Hodges that would be his lovely bride for the next seventy years. During their early years they enjoyed traveling around the area joining other young couples to square dance. Claude was an active member of the VFW Post 1843 of Glencoe, Masons Frontier Lodge #48 of Stillwater, and the American Legion Post 129 of Stillwater.
He worked for many years on his farm raising cattle, gardening, growing watermelons, and tinkering with old engines. In his pastime he enjoyed bowling, and playing his guitar and keyboard. Claude will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Claude is survived by his wife of seventy years, Nola V. Ellington; son, Mike Ellington and wife Nancy of Oklahoma City, OK; daughter, Ramona Marble and husband Brad of Glencoe, OK; four grandchildren, Sean Ellington and wife Katie of Katy, TX, Ian Ellington and wife Valerie of Houston, TX, Rocky Marble of Austin, TX, and Chip Marble of Glencoe, OK; five great-grandchildren, Emma, Michael, Amelia Ellington of Katy, TX, Ethan and Olivia Ellington of Houston, TX; two sisters, Carol Meissner of Stillwater, OK, and Lois Sayre of Cleveland, OK; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John and Joe Ellington; and one sister, Mary Ruth Stephens.
