Dannie Ingmire

November 30, 1929 — July 18, 2015

Dannie Edward Ingmire, 85, a long time resident of Marland, OK passed away Saturday, July 18, 2015 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, OK. Services have been entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Perry, OK. Dannie was born to Harry and Mary (Hines) Ingmire on November 30, 1929. He attended Marland Schools. After contracting polio at the age of 12, he had limited use of one leg. He never let this slow him down, tackling everything with determination. Being unable to play sports, he was the score keeper for the Marland boys and girls basketball teams before graduating in 1948. He was known in the community as a carpenter and a skilled cabinet maker. Friends and neighbors always knew he would help with any of their do it yourself-projects or cut or shape their lumber in his shop. He always used his old wooden folding ruler to measure cabinet openings and to layout projects. His completed work was always excellent quality and admired by his customers. Dannie worked 20 years as a rural mail carrier in the Ponca City area and made many friends. He delivered the mail to the door steps of the elderly. At Christmas time, his postal customers always made sure he had plenty of presents and homemade goodies waiting for him to enjoy. He enjoyed being outdoors and farm life, especially helping his brother Wilbur on the family farm by running equipment, baling hay, and going to town to get parts and returning to the field to get the equipment running. His favorite sport was the community coyote hunts that took place on the dirt roads and waterways. As the chase went from section to section, with trucks racing ahead to get into position and the chatter on the radio getting louder, Dannie was right in the middle. Not even the family Christmas dinner could cut a hunt short. In his later years, Dannie would sit at the house with the radio on or park on a hill and listen as he watched hunters race down the dirt road. Dannie"s independent character and never knowing a stranger served him well for the 85 years he blessed us on this earth. He is survived by one sister, Dolores Wyckoff and husband Erwin, and one brother, Wilbur Ingmire and wife Maureen, both of Marland, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mildred J. Dormire. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Graveside services will be held Thursday, July 23, 2015 at 10 a.m. at the Union Cemetery in Billings, OK under the direction of Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Perry, OK. Memorial donations may be made to the Marland or Red Rock Volunteer Fire Departments in care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Perry, PO Box 189, Perry, OK 73077.
