Danny Keith Wilson was born on September 14, 1955 in Wichita Falls, Texas, the third son of Aubrey Gordon and Billie Jac (Fitzgerald) Wilson. He grew up in Southwest Oklahoma, graduating from Southside School, a rural country school 15 miles southeast of Altus, in 1973. In his youth he played basketball, was active in FFA as a chicken judge, and was raised in the Tipton Church of Christ. While still in high school, Danny drove the school bus, and later on, while attending Altus Junior College, he drove buses for Altus Public Schools. Many have said he was the most enjoyable bus driver they ever had.
Danny was one of the first employees for Mercury Marine in Stillwater, where he worked between the years of 1976 and 1982. He also worked in oil fields with his brother Barry for several years in the 1980s. Danny moved to Perkins, Oklahoma in 1979 where he loved his home in the woods. He enjoyed his job as a road grader operator for Payne County for 24 years.
Danny enjoyed classic rock music, attending basketball games, riding his motorcyle, watching college football, driving his classic cars, fishing, feeding birds and vegetable gardening. He was one of the best storytellers around, he had a smile that lit up the room, and his laid-back attitude was contagious.
Danny passed away on November 22, 2017, surrounded by family, at Stillwater Medical Center after a brief but intense battle with cancer.
His parents, Aubrey G and Billie J Wilson, precede him in death.
He is survived by his companion Lisa Macy of the home; son Samuel Keith Wilson and his wife Courtney of Stillwater; granddaughter, Hartlie Wilson of Stillwater; brothers, Randy M Wilson and wife Donna of Stillwater, Barry K Wilson and wife Pam of Butler, Terry L Wilson and wife Denise of Stillwater; his nieces and nephews, Latasha Wilson Tasci, Wyatt Wilson, Lauren Wilson, Taylor Wilson, Carissa Gabilheri, and Kayleigh Wilson; and countless friends and colleagues. He is also survived by Buddy, his severe macaw and faithful friend for 24 years. Danny will be greatly missed by many.
A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor on Friday, December 1 at 1:00 pm at the Perkins Church of Christ on Lover’s Lane in Perkins, Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Tipton Children’s Home.
