A viewing will be held from 1 P.M. to 8 P.M. Tuesday, April 28, 2020 at the Dighton-Marler Funeral Home Chapel, 5106 N. Washington St. in Stillwater, Oklahoma 74075. A graveside service will be held Thursday, April 30, at 2 P.M. at the Tryon Cemetery, in Tryon Oklahoma.
Darla Sue (Gatlin) Shipp was born on July 18, 1946 in Clovis, California to Troy and Betty Mae (Bollinger) Gatlin. She departed this life on April 25, 2020 at her home in Glencoe, Oklahoma surrounded by her loving family at the age of 73 years, 9 months and 7 days.
Darla grew up in Hanford, California most of her life, living and working on a dairy farm. As much time as she spent working, she enjoyed spending time with her sisters, Nita and Judy. She had fond memories of her childhood and she enjoyed sharing them every chance she could. In 1970, she married Randy Shipp, together they raised 3 children and 1 stepdaughter. In 1973, Darla and Randy moved to the Agra/Parkland area where they raised their family and spent nearly 30 years of her life. She worked as a nursing assistant while her health permitted before retiring as a homemaker. Darla had a great love for her entire family. It was important that she kept in touch, always. All of her life she enjoyed traveling and spending time at her grandchildren’s sporting events, she was their biggest fan. Her kind love, warm heart and the loyal upbringing of her children and grandchildren will be remembered forever. She was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Randy; grandson, Cody Lumpkin; 3 brothers, Billy, Robert “Bobby” and Burl Gunn.
Left to carry her legacy are her children, Tina Starling and partner James, of Yale, OK., Travis Shipp and wife Jennifer, of Perkins, OK., Tara Davison and husband Ray, of Glencoe, OK., Lisa Morgan and husband Jeff, of Visalia, California; sisters, Nita Moore of Stillwater, OK., Judy Willard and husband Cotton, of Hanford, California; 3 sisters-in-law; 1 brother-in-law; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends also survive her.
