David Bennett Marler

April 5, 1944 — July 13, 2012

Landscape artist David Bennett Marler, of Perkins, OK died Friday, July 13 at his home north of Stillwater. He was 68 years old.
Marler was born April 5, 1944 in Hobart, OK., the son of Henry Bennett Marler and Luella Mae Oliver Marler. He was reared in the Perkins area where he attended Perkins Public Schools. He is a 1962 graduate of Perkins High School.
He moved to Denver in the mid-1960s, working for Montgomery Ward until it closed. He then worked for a Denver dry cleaning firm. In the late 1990s, he moved to Stillwater and worked at dry cleaning until he retired.
Marler took up landscape painting while in Colorado, choosing flowers, mountains, churches and valleys in his oils. He shared his paintings with family and friends, and sold others.
David is survived by brothers Ralph Marler, Tulsa; and Dennis Marler and wife Janat, of Broken Arrow; step-sister Angela Mercer, of Conroe, Texas; nephew Greg Marler, of Denver; niece Rachel Montero and her husband Christian, of Tulsa, and their daughter and son.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Helen Marler, of Perkins; and longtime companion Norman Babcock, of Stillwater; and numerous aunts and uncles.
At Marler's request, private family memorial services will be held at his favorite place; the Cimarron River.
