David Charles Cook, 73, entered into his eternal life on December 12, 2014. Services have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at 11:00am at the Church of Christ in Glencoe, OK. Interment will be held at a later date.

Charles was born in Rush Springs, OK, to Robert B Cook and Mary Jane Mowery Cook on April 17, 1941, and attended school in Rush Springs and Stillwater.

In 1960, he joined the U.S. Army, proudly serving his beloved country for eight years, including two years in Vietnam as a Huey helicopter door gunner on both troopships Gators and gunships Crocs before his honorable discharge in 1968 as a Sergeant.

He married Donna Kay Wehr on March 17, 1967, and resided in several different towns before settling near Glencoe at their residence of the past 35 years. His grandkids were the light of his life and he relished every moment spent with them.

Among his many occupations he especially enjoyed serving as a policeman and heavy equipment operator before retiring from his favorite truckdriving job at Jack Griffiths Gas-Up.

Charles dedicated his life to serving the Lord and was a President/member of the local Christian Motorcyclists Association chapter for many years where he made many lifelong friendships; and was a long-time member of the Lone Chimney Community Church.

He enjoyed close ties to family, friends and neighbors and volunteered much of his time serving others in Glencoe and the surrounding communities. He was the Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 21 in Glencoe and also delivered meals for Project Heart for several years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers - Bobby, Jerry, and Jack; sister-in-law Sue Cook; and several special aunts and uncles who provided extra love and guidance during his formative years.

Survivors include his wife of the home; son Kevin Cook, daughter Sarah Smith and husband Bob; grandchildren Brent Cook, Lyndsie Cook, Jacob Wilson, Zachary Simpson, Avery Simpson, Amanda Butler and husband Josh, Brooke Smith, and Joshua Levi Smith; great-grandchildren Aubrey and Gavin; and numerous other friends and family members.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Shay Ross Memorial Scholarship Fund at Glencoe Public Schools, 201 E. Lone Chimney Road, Glencoe, OK 74032.

Isaiah 40:31 But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
