David Harold (Dave) Johnson
My husband, the father of our children, has gone to be with his Heavenly Father. He passed from this life June 28, 2010 at home with his family celebrating his home going. David was born March 16, 1925 at Goltry, OK, the son of David B. and Cora Johnson. He went to school in Goltry and graduated from Goltry High School in 1943. David married Helen Lee Bradford July 4, 1948 at the First Baptist Church in Enid, OK. In 1949 he received a bachelor of commercial science from Enid Business College. David had a distinguished career in the military, having attained the rank of Master Sergeant. He was awarded the Korean War medal, Combat Infantry badge, and the Bronze Star. He also distinguished himself in the insurance field. He served as a special agent with McKnight Agency in Enid, Commercial Insurance Company, General Manager of Stark Insurance Agency in Stillwater, and served as Dean of Annual Insurance School at Oklahoma University. He served as chairman of the Education Committee, Independent Insurance Agents of Oklahoma. He was presented the Chairman of the Year Award by the National Association of Managing General Agents. He was a member of the State and National Independent Insurance Agents of America, and a member of the State and National Professional Insurance Agents and past president of the Stillwater Insurance Board. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Stillwater. He served the church as Chairman of Deacons, and Director of the Adult Sunday School Department for 20 years. He was a member of the Adult Sanctuary Choir, Chairman of the Finance Committee, Chairman of Personnel Committee, Sunday School teacher, and had served a five year term on the Executive Board of the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma. He also served as treasurer of the church for fifteen years. David was active in the Stillwater community, serving as Chairman of the Parks and Recreation Board, served on the Ambassador Committee of the Chamber of Commerce and had served as Secretary of Fairlawn Cemetery Association. He was very active in both the noon and evening Kiwanis clubs, where he received many awards for his generous contributions. He served two terms as Lt. Governor.
He is survived by his wife, Helen, of the home, his children, Teresa and Mogens Knudsen of Denmark; David W. and Rachel Johnson of Edmond, OK; Tania and Mike Hill of Broken Arrow, OK; Tracy and Jim Cox of Kansas City, MO; 17 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Mr. Johnsons services have been entrusted to the care of Palmer-Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater and will be held at First Baptist Church of Stillwater at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, June 30, 2010.
