David “Mike” Benjamin Schroeder passed away peacefully Saturday morning, September 3, 2022 at the homeplace where he was actually born southeast of Stillwater with his wife Judy by his side. Mike was 86. Funeral services have been entrusted to the care of Dighton-Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater.
Mike was born October 18, 1935 in Stillwater to Anton and Esther Violet (Frick) Schroeder. He attended and graduated from Ripley High School in 1953. From 1958 to 1964 Mike served in the Oklahoma National Guard. He was a farmer/rancher at heart, but he did work as a substitute rural mail carrier for 43 years. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Forresters, and The Payne County Cattlemen’s Association. Among his many hobbies, Mike loved his 1927 Model T touring car and his 1929 Model A pickup. In his later years Mike found and married the love of his life, Judy Rieman on April 22, 1995 in Stillwater. Together they continued to work on the farm raising cattle and planting crops.
Survivors include his wife, Judy of the home; sister, Betty Puckett (Dave) of Jenks, Oklahoma; brother, Joe Schroeder of Gage, Oklahoma; seven nephews; and four nieces; and a host of other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Charles “Pete” Schroeder.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 14, 2022 from 9AM to 8PM at Dighton-Marler Funeral Home, Stillwater. Rosary will be 6PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Family will greet guests from 6:30PM to 8PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10AM Thursday, September 15, 2022 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Perry with Father Bala officiating. Interment will follow at 2PM at Osborn Cemetery on the Schroeder farm. Pallbearers will be his nephews, Fred Schroeder, Tony Schroeder, Rex Schroeder, Ed Schroeder, Dan Schroeder, Wayne Schroeder, and Andy Schroeder. Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Spears, Dennis Henry, J.D. Frank, Steve Lewis, Cecil Strande, Tim Endicott, and Eric Davis.
