Donald Ray Coonts, a beloved member of the Ripley and Stillwater communities, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2024 in Stillwater, Oklahoma at the age of 94. He was born on August 25, 1929, in Ripley, Oklahoma to Harry L. and Goldie R. (Baker) Coonts.
Donald led a remarkable life filled with dedication to his work and love for his family. After graduating from Ripley High School in 1947, he went on to serve his country as a member of the United States Air Force for 26 years. Donald retired from the Air Force as an aircraft maintenance superintendent before transitioning into roles as a heavy equipment mechanic and welder. He ended his working career as the Master Mechanic for the Stillwater Fire Department where he served from 1981-1994.
Outside of his professional commitments, Donald had a variety of interests that brought him joy. He found solace in activities such as fishing, gardening and he enjoyed working on projects on the farm. However, his greatest happiness came from spending time with his cherished family.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his daughter, Deborah Bradley in 2012, and two brothers, Lester and Roy Coonts. He is survived by his loving family members who will continue to honor his memory: daughter, Sheree Springer (Michael) of Floresville, TX; son, Guy Coonts (Becky) of Ripley, OK; two sisters, Rosella Dorsey and Betty Mitchell both of Ripley, OK; grandchildren, Christopher Rentzel (Rebecca), Laura Rentzel, Alena Springer, Alicia Springer, Brittany Coonts; great-grandchildren, Keria Rentzel, Adalyn Rentzel-Springer, Daniel Gaudi, Bailey Gaudi, Bella Gaudi, Deegan Gaudi, Duke Gaudi, Jae Lea Sypert, Westin Sypert, Lincoln Hoppe, Olivia Hoppe, Scarlett Hoppe; great-great-grandchildren, Galix Mullins, Huntleigh Mullins, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
Donald Ray Coonts will be remembered not only for his dedicated service to his country and community, but also for the love and kindness he showed to those around him. His legacy lives on through the memories shared by all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
