Earlene Gibble Lewis, 85, passed from this life on October 15, 2019 in Stillwater. A Celebration of Earlene’s life will be held on Tuesday, October 22 at 11:00 AM at Dighton-Marler Funeral Home in Stillwater for family and friends. Rev. Jeff Gaunt will officiate.
Earlene was born on January 26, 1934 in Coyle, OK. to Earl and Audrey Gibble. Her family moved to Cushing, OK. when Earlene was in the 5th grade. She recalled as a girl in Cushing her confession of faith in Jesus Christ as her savior and baptism. Earlene enjoyed many activities during high school that included band, orchestra, as well as, being part of the Tigerettes and Drama club and the MMM’s. After graduating Cushing High School in 1951, Earlene attended the private Stephens College for women in Columbia, Mo., where she studied secretarial courses. She also attended Oklahoma State for a short time. She then went to work for her father’s Gibble Gas and Oil Company, doing accounting and secretarial work for 16 years. Earlene enjoyed being able to work with her sister Betty and her parents. Earlene married Jack L. Acklin from Cushing, OK. in 1953. From this marriage, they had two children, Douglas Acklin and Lorie Acklin Dobson. Jack’s government job required them to travel and live in many states before he was given his last assignment to Stillwater. After Earlene’s marriage to Jack ended, she met Pat Lewis, an OSU professor. They dated for 4 years before marrying in 1985 in Reno, NV with several good friends attending. From this marriage, Earlene acquired two stepchildren, Melody Lewis-Rucker and Regan Lewis. Earlene and Pat enjoyed traveling to many great places such as Hawaii, the Bahamas, Las Vegas and Key West 4 times. Earlene and Pat also enjoyed being part of the Stillwater Boat Club and entertaining at their camping trailer at Lake Carl Blackwell. They were devoted OSU Cowboy fans and attended OSU football games for many years. They also enjoyed being members of the Stillwater Elks Lodge. Later in life Earlene also enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter Ashley, going on many fun trips and creating fun memories.
Earlene is survived by: her sister, Betty Whalen and husband Cecil of Cushing, Ok.; her two children, Douglas Acklin and wife Angela of St. Augustine, FL., Lorie Dobson and husband Randy of Stillwater, OK.; Stepdaughter, Melody Rucker of Guthrie, OK.; Daughter-in-law, Terri Lewis of Tampa FL.; Grandchildren, Ashley Hernandez and husband Daniel of Stillwater, OK.; Step Grandchildren, Victoria Whisenant and husband Cole of Allen, OK., Storm Rucker of Guthrie, OK.; Great-Grandchild, Alexander Hernandez; Step Great-Grandchildren, Cash and Ava Whisenant; as well as, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and good friends.
Earlene is preceded in death by: her brother, Eldon Gibble of Cushing, OK.; her parents, Earl and Audrey Gibble, of Cushing, OK.; her step-son, Regan Lewis, of Tampa, FL.; and her husband, Pat Lewis of Stillwater.
