Ebba Bird Mathis, age 81, of Stillwater, OK, passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Stillwater Medical Center in Stillwater. Services have been entrusted to the care of Dighton-Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater.
Graveside services will be held on July 7, 2018 at 11:00am at Wilson Cemetery in Henryetta, OK.
Ebba was born January 18, 1937 in Midland, TX, to Clarence and Beatrice (Dial) Brown. She grew up in West Texas, in the Midland area where she graduated high school. She married Jessse Doyle “Dean” Mathis in March 1957. Soon they moved to Tahlequah, OK, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education at Northeastern State University. Later, in Edmond, OK, she completed her Masters Degree in Education Administration. She taught eighth grade earth science for many years in the Edmond Public School System. After 30 years as a educator, Ebba retired in 1996.
Some of Ebba’s hobbies include working crossword puzzles, crocheting, watching movies, and playing bridge. She and Dean enjoyed seeing many beautiful places as they traveled all over the world.
She loved her family very much. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, making memories that would last a lifetime. She will be greatly missed by them all.
Ebba is survived by her two sons, Jeff Mathis and wife Kathy of NH, and Mike Mathis and wife Keri of Stillwater, OK; six grandchildren, Lori, Leanne, Kennedy, Sam, Kimber, and Thomas; one sister, Bettye Kinard and husband Larry of Fort Worth, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2006, and her mother and father.
