Edythe Katheryn (Coe) Gant was born April 10, 1921 to DeWitt and Edna (Broyles) Coe in Glencoe, Oklahoma. She attended White Hall School 1st thru 8th grades, then to Glencoe High School graduating in May 1939.
Edythe married John Gant on September 27, 1941 at the Cushing Christian Church. They moved to a farm north of Glencoe, later moving to California, and returning to Stillwater, Oklahoma in July 1951 where they lived until Johns death on February 28, 2008 and Edythes death on October 28, 2009.
The Gants owned and operated Gants Laundry from August 1956 to May 1983 when they both retired. They were members of the Glencoe Church of Christ from 1941 to 1953, became members of the 9th Avenue Christian Church in 1953 in Stillwater, then joined Sunnybrook Christian Church in September 1992.
Edythe enjoyed doing church work, sewing for her daughters and grandchildren, making quilts, crocheting afghans, and embroidering t-towels. She was always busy doing something with her hands.
Survivors include her three daughters and son-in-laws, Marjorie Lynn McAllister and Don of Stockbridge, Georgia, Joy Elaine Sober and Ron of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Anita Sue Rush and Phillip of Ripley, Oklahoma. Grandchildren include Konda and Dean Walker of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Dionne Mohammed and Terry of Memphis, Tennessee, Heather Zimmerman and Aaron of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Lacy Sober of Dallas, Texas, Jason Rush and Shalyn of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Shawn Rush of Ripley, Oklahoma. Great-grandchildren, Ross, Reid and Reagan Walker of Bartlesville, and Amirah, Terrence and Christopher Mohammed of Memphis, Tennessee. Brothers Blake and Ethel Coe of Perry, Oklahoma and Richard Coe of Grants Pass, Oregon. Sisters-in-Law Gladys Gant of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Evelyn Coe of Perry, Oklahoma and Delora Coe Combest of Glencoe, Oklahoma plus several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Reubin Gant; her parents; a daughter Kathryn Kaye Gant; three brothers Lester Coe, Loyd Coe, and Leroy Coe; two sisters Ethel Reynolds and Doris Flora; and a grandson Chase McAllister.
Services will be held at 11am on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at the Palmer Marler Funeral Home Chapel in Stillwater. Burial will follow at Glencoe South Cemetery in Glencoe, Oklahoma.
