Elberta B. Higgs

Elberta B. Higgs, 85, passed into the arms of her Lord on Sunday, August 14, 2011 in Stillwater. Services have been entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater and will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. in the Church of Christ of Perkins with Pastor Richard Poe presiding. Elberta was born on October 6, 1925 in Abilene, Texas to Gerald and Jettie Cline. She grew up in the area, graduating from Abilene High School. She then married the love of her life, Ordis Clinton Higgs, a union that lasted until her passing. The couple then made their home Louisville, Kentucky. After Louisville they lived in Arkansas for over 35 years, and after a short time in Louisiana moved to Stillwater in the early 90s. Elberta worked as a seamstress for many years in department stores. In her spare time, she enjoyed writing poetry, teaching Bible School, and making quilts for each newborn in the Church of Christ of Perkins, where she was a member since 1992. Elberta was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Jettie Cline, and brother Gerald Howard Cline. Elberta is survived by her husband Ordis, two sons: David Higgs and wife Shelia of Stillwater, and Bruce Higgs of Cumberland, Maryland, three grandchildren: Wesley Higgs and wife Pam of Tulsa, Chanda Spencer of Stillwater, and Sheryl Boutz of Sherwood, Arkansas, nine great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild, as well as many friends.
