Eldon Fred Ropers, 76, lifelong resident of Stillwater, Oklahoma, passed away Friday, January 26, 2018 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Funeral services have been entrusted to the care of Dighton-Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater.
A Celebration of Eldon’s life will be Thursday, February 1, 2018 at 2PM in the chapel at Dighton-Marler Funeral Home in Stillwater. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 31, 2018 from 9AM to 8PM. Family will greet guests from 6PM to 8PM. There will be a private interment at Avery Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Avery, Oklahoma.
Eldon was born April 16, 1941 in Grainola, Oklahoma to Henry and Laura (Oestmann) Ropers. He grew up in the Grainola area and graduated from Shidler High School in 1959. After graduation, he attended Oklahoma State University for a couple years before marrying the love of his life. On January 25, 1964 he married Alberta Longan in Stillwater, Oklahoma. They just celebrated 54 years together. In 1965, Eldon joined the Navy and proudly served his country for the next four years. He was honorably discharged on October 14, 1969.
He was a charter member and past president of the Fraternal order of Eagles, Stillwater chapter, and past president of the state F.O.E. as well. He enjoyed hunting, traveling, and spending time with his family. He owned and operated the Stillwater Hatchery for several years, but was mostly self-employed as a handyman for the past 20 plus years before retirement.
Survivors include his lovely wife Alberta of the home; one brother, Irvin Ropers and wife Carolyn of Stillwater, OK; one sister, Lorene Shirley and husband Austin of Stillwater, OK; one brother-in-law, James Longan and wife Jeanne of Lincoln, NE; two sisters-in-law, Carmen Longan of Palm Dale, CA, and Barbara Longan of Stillwater, OK; two nephews, James Ropers of Oklahoma City, OK, and Kevin Ropers of Stillwater, OK; two nieces, Leann Ropers of Texas, and Shilynn Ropers of Stillwater, OK; several other nieces and nephews by marriage; one great-nephew, Dustin Bickell, of Stillwater, OK; and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
