Eldon Leroy "Bud" Avery

Eldon Leroy “Bud” Avery passed away Thursday, August 30, 2018, at his home in Perry, Oklahoma, surrounded by his family. Services have been entrusted to the care of Dighton-Marler Funeral Home of Perry, Oklahoma.
A Celebration of Bud’s life will be Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 11:00AM at Dighton-Marler Funeral Home Chapel in Perry. A reception will follow at Dighton-Marler for a time of visitation and reminiscing. Interment will follow at McGuire Cemetery.
Bud was born July 2, 1937 in Lucien, OK, to Glen and Edith (Chrisman) Avery. He grew up in the Covington community and graduated from Covington High School in 1955. Soon after graduating he married the love of his life, Sharon Tracy, in Palisade, CO. He spent 22 years with the Grand Junction Fire Department and retired in 1987 as Administrative Fire Officer, Shift Commander. In Grand Junction he spent many years training Quarter Horses. He loved reigning and breeding his horses. He raised many colts as champions and had several horses qualify for the World Quarter Horse Show in Oklahoma City. Upon returning to Oklahoma, he enjoyed working the family farm.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years Sharon Avery of the home; son, Bryan Avery and wife Nettie of Glenwood Springs, CO; three grandchildren, Candace Sturges and husband Luke, Dru Avery and wife Liz, and Cam Avery all of Littleton, CO; two great-grandchildren, Sloane and Leighton Sturges; three sisters, Linda Shimanek and husband Bernie of Covington, OK, Diana Scott and husband Gary of Grand Junction, CO, and Anetta Bartlet of North Lake, TX; brother, Loren Avery and wife Mary of Enid, OK; several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Traci Luckett, and brother, Dennis Avery.
