July 27, 1917 — January 30, 2011

Elizabeth Gibson-Lavigne, 93, passed from this life at Grace Living Center in Stillwater, OK on Sunday, January 30, 2011. In accordance with her wishes, there will not be any formal services. A private family gathering of remembrance will be held at a later date in San Diego, CA. Her ashes will be scattered at sea, off her beloved San Diego-Point Loma shores. Her arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater. Elizabeth was born in Natchez, MS, on July 27, 1917, to Henry C. and Lillian Gibson. She attended school in Natchez until her fathers death. Along with her mother and brother, she moved to Calexico, CA, and attended Calexico High School, graduating in 1936. She married Jean Rene Lavigne on June 2, 1936. They were later divorced. Elizabeth lived in Calexico, CA, until moving to La Mesa, CA in 1957, where she worked as a manicurist. She retired in 1977 to pursue those activities she enjoyed with her soul mate and companion of many years, Mr. Harold Kaufmann. He predeceased her in 1995. Due to failing health, she moved to Stillwater, OK, in 2005 to be near her daughter Jan and son-in-law Bill Womack. In addition to her mother and father, she is also predeceased by a brother Henry C. Gibson Jr., and a daughter, Andrea Lavigne-Lear, and an infant granddaughter. Survivors include a daughter, Janet Lavigne-Womack and husband Bill of Stillwater, OK; a son, Gene Lavigne and wife Anna of Alpine, CA; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Judith Karman Hospice.
