Evelyn Schwandt passed away August 15, 2019, in Perry, Oklahoma; she was 91. Funeral services have been entrusted to the care of Dighton-Marler Funeral Home, Perry, OK. Evelyn was born May 22, 1928, in Cherokee, Oklahoma, to Gwen and Alix Ring.
Evelyn treasured a lifetime of wonderful memories of her family and her marriage of 66 years to George. At 19 years of age, George and Evelyn fell in love and were married June 24, 1948.
While George was in the U.S. Air Force, Evelyn worked as a retail clerk at a women’s clothing store in Rapid City, South Dakota. She had many fond memories of that time and corresponded with friends they made for years afterward.
When George’s service term ended, the couple returned to Oklahoma to take care of the family farm. Later, Evelyn utilized her great cooking and baking skills as the cafeteria manager for Mulhall-Orlando High School for 27 years; her cinnamon rolls were the highlight of the day for students and teachers!
As a member of the Orlando Methodist Church, Evelyn enjoyed teaching Sunday School classes, singing in the choir, preparing the communion table, and helping with various activities. Her community and church were so important to her; she encouraged others to accept Jesus as Savior and to always walk with the Lord.
Evelyn’s hobbies included sewing, with a special love for quilting, square dancing with George, traveling (their trip to California and others vacations to Branson were talked about often) and enjoying time with family (especially her grandchildren, Corbin and Dylan) and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George, parents, Gwen Jones, and Alix Ring and wife, Arvilla; sister, Joan McLaughlin and niece, Cindy; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Anita Schwandt.
Those left behind include her daughter, Barbara Bourne, Burbank, California; grandson, Corbin Bourne and wife, Sofia, San Jose, California; grandson, Dylan Bourne and wife, Tierney, and great-granddaughter, Indie, Sherman Oaks, CA; sister, Marilynn Ring, Perry, and her sons, Jason Filtz and wife, Kelly, Ponca City, OK, and Drew Filtz and wife, Sarah, Ardmore, OK; nephew, Keith Schwandt and wife, Jimalou, Enid, Oklahoma, and their children, Lance of Oklahoma City, Kevin and wife, Kami, Enid, and Annie Swinea and husband, Tyler, Oklahoma City; nephew, Dr. Steve Schwandt, Guthrie and son, Travis and wife, Michele, Cleveland, TX, and daughter, Jessie, Guthrie; niece, Kathi Williams and husband, David, Perry, daughter, Nicole Beals, and husband, Michael, Tucson, AZ, and daughter, Alicia Prince, Perry; niece, Diane Pate and husband, Jack and their children, Stephanie Carel and husband, David, Edmond, Sondra Reid and husband, Michael of Edmond, and Jackie Allen, Edmond; nephew, Dennis McLaughlin, and children, Richard, Michael, and Linda, Ridgecrest, CA, and the many close friends for whom she was very thankful.
