Frances Harris, 87, of Stillwater, passed from this life to her eternal reward on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Stillwater Medical Center. Services are 10:00 am, Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Dighton-Marler Funeral Home Chapel in Stillwater, OK. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 27, 2021 from 9:00am-8:00pm and family greeting guests from 6:00pm-8:00pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Ardmore, OK at 3:00pm. Dighton Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater has been entrusted with her care.
She was born May 28, 1934 in Ardmore, Oklahoma to Dow C. and Virginia Webb. Frances attended schools in Ardmore and graduated with the Ardmore High School "Class of 52" where she was president of the Debonaire High School Social Club. During high school she met Arlin L. Harris, Jr. on a blind date and they dated for several years before marrying on April 5, 1953 at the First Methodist Church in Ardmore, OK and they were happily married for 65 years. After high school graduation she attended Oklahoma A&M College.
Frances was a volunteer at the Stillwater Municipal Hospital Snack Bar for several years before going to work at Bonney's Dress Store. She also worked at the Stillwater Police Department, Edmon Low Library, and Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at OSU before retiring in 1990. After retiring she continued a life of service to others by volunteering with Red Cross Blood Drives, Karman Korner Resale Store, Elite Repeat and the Payne County Election Board. She enjoyed traveling with her husband Arlin throughout the United States and playing canasta with several card groups. Family and friends remark that Frances was generous to a fault, outgoing, quick witted, and always greeted people with a smile even over the phone.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sisters Mary Ellen Webb, Virginia Louise Meeks, and Betty Blanche McClendon.
She is survived by her children James Arlin Harris and wife Gwen, Emporia, KS; Teresa Lynn Harris, Garland, TX; Douglas Clay Harris and wife Vickie, Ft. Worth, TX; and Debra Ann Harris Garrett, Stillwater, OK; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
