Freddie Joe Springer, 73, of Stillwater passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 7, 2016 in Stillwater, at Grace Living Center surrounded by his family. Funeral services have been entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater.
Funeral services are scheduled at 12:00 noon Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at the Otoe-Missouria Cultural Center in Red Rock, OK. Interment will follow at Otoe-Missouria Tribal Cemetery. Freddie will lie in state at the Culture Center until service time.
Freddie was born September 15, 1942 in Pawnee, OK to Joseph, Jr. and Anna (Bassett) Springer. He grew up in the Perkins area and attended Perkins public schools. He later joined the Army in 1967. While serving during the Vietnam War, he earned a Purple Heart with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, two Bronze Service Stars, and a Combat Infantryman Badge. He was an avid sports fan. He loved it all, especially O.U. Sooners and the Oklahoma City Thunder. Freddie also enjoyed going the Casino, working with beads, visiting with friends and spending time with his grandchildren. He was very proud of his Native American Heritage.
Survivors include his son, Cecil Dean Springer, and daughter, Mary Gertrude Lafarlette, both of Drumright, OK. Two brothers; Robert Myron Springer and wife Margit of Kemptner, TX, and Galen Springer of Stillwater, OK. Four sisters; Sheila Darlene McClellan of Carney, OK, Rose Segura of Stillwater, OK, Madelyn McCoy and husband Dan of Cushing, OK, and Leona Rice of Cushing, OK. Two grandchildren; Terry Wayne Mattox and Tyler Lafarlette. Numerous other grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother; Cecil Dean Springer, one sister; Mary Gertrude Springer, and Maternal & Paternal Grandparents.
