Miss me a little but not too long and not with your head bowed low. Miss me, but let me go, as this is a journey we all must take.
Dr. Steve Gipson passed away on April 22, 2009 at his dearly loved home in Stillwater, Oklahoma after a long courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Dr. Steve was born on January 4, 1952 in Jackson, Mississippi to James Luther Gipson and Johnnie F. Gipson Dunn. Dr. Steve received his B.S. in Physics in 1975; his M.S. in Engineering Science in 1978; and his Ph.D. in Engineering Science in 1982 all from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA. He was a Professor in the Structural Engineering and Mechanics group of the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Oklahoma State University.
Funeral Services for Dr. Steve Gipson, 57, of Stillwater, Oklahoma are scheduled beginning with the family receiving friends from 12:00 P.M. until 1:30 P.M. on Saturday, April 25 at Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Stillwater. Memorial Services will be held at 1:30 P.M. He will be taken home to his family in Jackson, Mississippi where he will be laid to rest. Services will be under the direction of Palmer Marler Funeral Home.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jim Gipson and one adopted brother, Bill Gipson.
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Johnnie Dunn of Brandon, MS; his step-mother, Ms. Joyce Gipson of Jackson, MS; one brother, Barry Gipson and his wife, Billie of Baton Rouge, LA; two adopted sisters, Chery Hancock and her husband, Johnny of Mt. Pleasant, TX and Vicki Favell of Pasadena, TX; also numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
His family wishes to sincerely thank Judith Karman Hospice; his recent caregiver, Charlotte Trahan; and Dr. Steves family of friends for their devotion and support.
His family requests no flowers. However, memorial donations may be made in Steves name to Judith Karman Hospice, 915 South Main, Stillwater, OK 74074 or National Pancreas Foundation, 364 Boylston Street, Fourth Floor, Boston, MA 02116.
