Gary Dean Pratt (Native American name Ahu Thaway), 60, passed from this life on Friday, June 26, 2015 at Stillwater Medical Center surrounded by family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home. Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 2 at St. John University Parish. Interment will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery. A public viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Gary was born on July 10, 1954 in Stillwater, OK to Francis and Mary Kay Pratt. He grew up in Stillwater before his family moved to Garden City Kansas. Gary attended Garden City High School and graduated in 1972. After high school, he continued his education at Garden City Community College and Fort Hays State University. Gary worked for AT&T for 32 years as a customer service technician. While attending college he met and fell in love with Mona Wiesner. They married in 1975 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays, KS. Gary and Mona had two children, Jeff and Mikey. During their youth, he coached many of their football and baseball teams. Garys hobbies included fishing, golfing, grilling, and OSU sports. He was also very proud of his Native American heritage. In 2013 Gary was elected Chairman of the Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma, a position he held until the time of his death. Gary was an active member of St. John Catholic church for 36 years and a member of the 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.
Gary is preceded in death by two brothers, David and Tony Pratt. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mona; two sons, Jeff Pratt and wife, Kari of Stillwater, and Father Mike Pratt of Bartlesville, OK; his parents, Francis and Mary Kay Pratt; two brothers, Scott Pratt of Stillwater and Randy Pratt of Garden City, KS and two grandchildren, Bradyn and Mason Pratt. Gary was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Gary Pratt Memorial Fund in care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home, 5106 North Washington, Stillwater, OK 74075.
