Funeral services for Gene Dickerson, 74, of Stillwater are scheduled for 11:00 A.M., Saturday, October 24, 2009 at the Palmer Marler Funeral Home Chapel in Stillwater. Services are under the direction of Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Stillwater.
Gene was born on September 16, 1935 in Crescent, OK to William O. and Cecil Dickerson. He grew up in Crescent, with the exception of a few years in California. Upon moving back to Crescent, he continued school and graduated from Crescent High School. He attended Central State University (now UCO) in Edmond. Gene moved to Stillwater in the early 1970s. He married Linda Gilliland on June 9, 1977 in Miami, OK. He worked for Standard Life as the district manager for OK and KS for over 20 years. He became self-employed after that, owning and operating ChemCo Marketing and Pest Control. He was a member of Stillwater Bass Masters for several years and assisted in starting the club. Gene was a skilled bass fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed reading western novels and watching western movies, taking family vacations to CO, AR, MO, and Canada for fishing trips, and playing poker with his buddies. He was an avid OU football fan and loved watching college football on Saturdays and NFL games on Sundays. Gene passed peacefully from this life on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 in Stillwater.
He is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, William Billie Dickerson, Harley Dickerson, Carl Dickerson, and Chuck Hughes; and one daughter-in-law, Ronda Dickerson.
He is survived by his wife, Linda of Stillwater; two sons, Randy Dickerson and Scott Gilliland of Stillwater; two daughters, Michelle Deisher and husband, Phillip of Stillwater and Valerie Blackburn of Edmond; ten grandchildren, Chelsea and Brooks Dickerson, Tristan Wheeler, Alyssa Brown, Kandace and Andrew Stroup, Clay, Clint, and Corri Blackburn, and Devon Almon; three great grandchildren, C.J., Contessa, and Taigan; two sisters, Millie Grey and husband, Earl of Guthrie and Irene Hughes of Oklahoma City; one sister-in-law, Lola Dickerson of Oklahoma City; numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
