Gene went home to be with the rest of the family on October 9, 2014 at the age of 92 years old at his home in Morrison, Oklahoma. Services have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home and a service celebrating his life will be held at 2pm on Monday, October 13, 2014 at the Palmer Marler Funeral home Chapel in Stillwater. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1pm to 6pm at the funeral home.
Gene was born in Red Rock, Oklahoma to Lucy (Emory) Hoskins and John Hoskins on December 29, 1921. He was raised with his sisters Mary Ray, Nettie Bolay, Bessie Tommany Walls and also his nephews Lloyd and Don McGrew.
He Graduated from Red Rock High School in 1939. Shortly after high school, Gene enlisted in the U.S. Army and attended basic training at Fort Hood, TX. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Gene returned home to Red Rock. He married Esther Dormire on October 19, 1948, to this marriage five children were born; Ronald, John, Marilyn, Karen and Deanna.
In the late 1950s Gene and his family relocated to Ponca City where he went to work for Earl Bray Trucking. In 1965 he accepted a position with Red Rock Co-op delivering gas and propane and in 1966 the family returned to Red Rock where they would reside until Genes retirement in 1982. After retiring, Gene moved back to Ponca City where he spent the majority of his time watering and mowing his yard and anyone elses yard nearby.
After Esther died in 1990, he moved to Morrison to be closer to his children. While in Morrison, Red Burk introduced him to a great gal, Goldie Jelink who he married on January 12, 1991. The marriage offered Gene the benefit of addition family members; a step daughter Linda Marlow and two grandchildren, Scott and Angela Marlow.
Gene Hoskins was a hard working man who always made family his priority. Nothing made him happier than being surrounded by his family, especially his grandchildren and great grand children. He enjoyed traveling and had the opportunity to visit 36 states, Canada and Mexico. Gene also loved to dance, collect cowboy boots, and he believed he had to have potatoes with every meal. His smile and sweet presence will be missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Goldie of the home; his son, John Hoskins and wife, Melva of Red Rock, OK; daughters, Marilyn Williams and husband, Marvin of Morrison, OK, Karen Hazelwood and husband, Carl of Meeker, OK, Deanna Rucker and husband, Loren of Bartlesville, OK, Linda Marlow of Morrison, OK; nephew, Don McGrew and wife, Wanda of Ponca City, OK; grandchildren, Becky Johnson and husband, Kevin, Matt Williams and wife, Ashley, BJ Gray and wife, Lacy, Brady Rucker, Brian Hoskins and wife, Allissa, Mandi Robedeaux and husband, Jason, Kristin Wilkins and husband, Justin, Scott Marlow, Ryan Hoskins and wife, Stacie, Morgan Keeter and husband, Kellan, Ashley Rucker, Angela Pattyson and husband, Jason; 13 great grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces and close friends.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Mary, Nettie, Bessie; his first wife, Esther Hoskins; son, Ronald Hoskins; and nephew, Lloyd McGrew.
The family requests that donations be made in Genes name to Judith Karman Hospice.
