Funeral service will be held on Friday, July 27, 2018 at 10:00am at Dighton-Marler Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 25 from 9:00am to 8:00pm and then on Thursday, July 26 from 9:00am to 8:00pm and family greeting guest from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the funeral home.
His 91 year journey was marked by great health and achievement. Glen was an Army Air Corps veteran, serving honorably and attaining the rank of sergeant. After his military service, he began a long 30 years career with American Airlines, retiring in 1982 as a crew chief at the Tulsa Maintenance Base.
Born March 11, 1927, to an early-day Payne County farming family, Glen was the youngest of nine children. He was a farmer and rancher throughout his adult life and owned several productive farms. He valued farmland and the abundance it could provide. Glen’s greatest joys were running a tractor, putting in a crop or taking care of his cattle. He was able to drive a tractor until his ninetieth birthday and loved every second of working outside and helping his son. Glen also had a passion for Western-Swing music and fishing with friends.
A lifelong Baptist, Glen was a member of First Baptist Church, Perry. For the last 15 years of his life, until his health and eye sight failed, Glen started every morning studying the Bible. It was his wish that someone reading his obituary would pause to consider and rejoice in their relationship with Christ our Savior. He had found the peace of Jesus' love and wanted everyone to find it, too.
Glen loved to tell stories about his life as boy when his family worked together to live off the farm during the hard, lean times of the Depression and a time when his father carried the same nickel in his pocket for three months, the only money he had to support his family. Glen was proud that even during these hard times, his family shared what they had with others. Glen attempted to live his life with the values he inherited from his family:
an unwavering work ethic, faith in God's provision, honesty and fairness and helping someone in need.
Glen is predeceased by his parents, Hayden and Annie Bunney of Stillwater, as well as his eight siblings: Alta, George, May, John, Elmer, Vallie, Warren and Bob. He is survived by his son, Mike and wife Kristie of Nowata; daughter, Susan Tomlinson and husband Andy of Tulsa; granddaughter, Leah Messner and husband Chris of Nowata and granddaughter, Amy Ann Arnold and husband Russ of Tulsa. He was the proud great-grandfather to Caroline Ann Messner, Hayden Michael Messner and Ivy Jean Arnold. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins whom he loved. He was a family man, always and foremost. He also leaves behind a host of cherished friends.
