Glen W. Bays

Glen Weldon Bays passed away on April 26th, in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Glen was born in Stillwater on August 12, 1931, to Willfred and Myrtle Bays. He attended schools in Payne and Noble counties before graduating from Stillwater High School in 1949, after which he joined the 45th Division National Guard and served a tour of duty in the Korean War. Upon his return to Stillwater, Glen attended Oklahoma A&M, where he met the love of his life, Betty Katherine Steelman. After a courtship propelled by a Harley Davidson motorcycle, Glen and Betty married on October 17, 1953. Glen received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Oklahoma A&M on May 28, 1956, followed by a Master of Arts degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and a doctorate from Union Theological Seminary, in New York City. Glen and Betty served as fraternal workers for the church, including five years in Zambia, Africa, and eleven years in Papua, New Guinea, before returning to the U.S. to head churches in Kansas and Minnesota. They retired to Stillwater in 2000, where they have made many friends. Glen and Betty had two children, Yvonne Glenda Housley and John Steelman Bays. Glen is survived by wife Betty, sister Carolyn Bays Hubble, of Castle Rock, Colorado, daughter Glenda and her husband, Denzel, their two children, Adam and Jennifer, and Jennifer’s son, Jack. Glen was preceded in death by his son, John Steelman Bays, sister, Maxine Bays McCormick, and brother Marvin Gene Bays, who passed away in November, 2018. A brief family graveside service will be held at the Marena cemetery on Friday, May 3rd, at 9:30 am, followed by the memorial service at 11 am in the sanctuary at the Presbyterian Church on 6th street in Stillwater
