Herbert Lee Brown, 84, of Glencoe, passed from this life on September 30, 2013 in Stillwater, OK. Services have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home and a service celebrating his life will be held on Friday, Oct. 4 at 1:00pm at the Glencoe United Methodist Church with burial following at Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Pawnee County. Public visitation will be held from 8am to 8pm on Thursday, October 3rd at Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Stillwater.
Herbert was born on August 26, 1929 in Guthrie, OK to Joseph and Lillie Ruby (Schulz) Brown. He was raised and attended schools in the Douglas, OK area before graduating from Pioneer High School near Enid in 1947. Following high school, he went to work on a local farm for 4 years before enlisting in the United States Army. He served his country for 2 years and was stationed much of the time in Greenland. On June 18, 1951 he married Patsy Mae Hunter in Covington, OK. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Herbert and Patsy purchased a farm near Glencoe, OK in 1955 and raised their six wonderful children there. Herbert spent most of his life as a farmer and raised crops and cattle on his farm. He was a skilled carpenter and he spent many years doing various construction jobs to help subsidize his farming income.
Herbert spent nearly 60 years on his farm and he was very proud of that fact. He loved being outdoors and when he was not farming, he could be found fishing, hunting, or watching a baseball game. He was a long time member of the Glencoe United
Methodist Church and made many great friends in Glencoe. Herbert was a loving father, grandfather, and friend and he will be missed by all who knew him.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Arthur Brown, Joe Brown Jr, and Victor Brown. Two sisters: Anna Brown and Betty Ham.
He is survived by his children: Darrel Brown and wife Lori, of Tonakawa. Cindy Staten of Stillwater. Larry Brown and wife Beverly, of Greenbrier, AR. Paul Brown and wife Donna, of Glencoe. Ray Brown of Perkins. Mark Brown and wife Jennifer, of Glencoe. Two sisters: Maxine Sadler of Perry and Elizabeth Baker of Edmond. 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
