Homer Lee Jones

September 15, 1941 — April 14, 2014

Homer Lee Jones, 72, of Osage, passed peacefully from this life on Monday, April 14, 2014 with his loving family by his side. Services have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater and a service celebrating his life will be held at the First Baptist Church in Prue, Oklahoma at 1pm on Thursday, April 17, 2014 with Pastor Garry McDevitt officiating. Interment will follow at Woodland Memorial Park Cemetery in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 16 at the Dillon & Smith Funeral Home at Woodland Memorial Park from 8am to 5pm.
Homer was born on September 15, 1941 in Prairie, Arkansas to John Walter and Mary Agnes (Collins) Jones. He grew up and attended schools in the Lavaca, Arkansas area. He dropped out of school to help support his family because his father was disabled and mother had gotten injured at work. He married his first wife, Lee Lois Grinstead in 1963 in Stillwell, Oklahoma. Homer and Lee had three beautiful children: Dell, Walter, and Velva. The marriage ultimately ended in divorce, but Homer and Lee remained close friends. On Feb 18, 1994, Homer married the love of his life, Rozella Robertson. They celebrated 20 years together this past February and Homer gained a wonderful step-son, Leonard Fowler IV.
During his younger years Homer maintained a black belt and taught Tae Kwon Do and raised hunting dogs. Homer worked as a maintenance engineer for apartment complexes most of his years and if he was not working you could find him enjoying his fishing, having fish frys and hush puppies aka shut up dogs with his neighbors while they played live blue grass music, and listening to old time true country music. He also loved dancing with Rozella, cooking his famous fried chicken and making wine from his home grown Muscadine grapes, and writing and sharing his stories of his dog named Big Red.
Homer attended the First Baptist Church in Prue, Oklahoma. He was a family man who always made time for his children. He enjoyed antagonizing his children by planning surprise fishing trips that would begin with him flipping on the bedroom lights in the pre-dawn hours and yelling leaving in 5 minutes, you better be ready to go and for teaching them to swim by tossing them in the pool and saying you better swim or else youre going to drown! He was a loving father that taught his kids important lessons like early to bed, early to rise and that they should be 30 minutes early, no matter where they were going.
Homer Jones was a kind hearted man who could always be trusted to offer good advice and who spent his life working hard to provide for his family. He was a loyal husband, a protective father, a proud grandpa, a diligent worker, and a loyal friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Jones and a brother, John Jones. Left behind to carry on his legacies of selfless compassion are his wife, Rozella Jones of the home; three children: Dell Griffin and husband Tracy, Walter Jones, Velva Sherrill and husband Lane, and step son Leonard T. Fowler IV and wife Michelle; seven grandchildren, Mindy Wahl and husband Willis, R.A. Reed and wife Mallory, Drew Reed and wife Jeanette, Aubrey Freeman-Jones, Courtney Swafford, Nathan Lantz and Desiree Lantz; three step grandchildren: Audrey Fowler, Regan Fowler, and Ella Fowler; five great grandchildren, Alex Fenslage, Terry Barrett, William Wahl, Dominic Wahl, and Carson Hope; four brothers, George Jones, James Jones, Billy Jones, and Loyal Jones; two sisters, Alta Slead and Ella Ruth Dixon, as well as many other family members and friends.
