Howard Anderson

Howard Anderson, a lifelong Stillwater resident passed away peacefully at his home in Stillwater on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. Services have been entrusted to the care of Dighton-Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater.
Visitation will be 9AM to 8PM Thursday, January 2, 2020 at Dighton-Marler Funeral Home, Stillwater. Family will greet guests from 6PM to 8PM. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 3, 2020 at 2PM at Dighton-Marler Chapel with Russell Hughes officiating. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery in Stillwater.
Howard was born July 15, 1931 in Anadarko, Oklahoma to Elgin De Forrest and Birdie Frances (Dowdy) Anderson. He graduated from Anadarko High School and then went on to Oklahoma State University for a year and a half before returning home to work with his dad. He soon went to work for Mr. Peyton Oil Company in Stillwater driving a truck. After a few years, Mr. Peyton helped Howard get started in the muffler business. He soon had his own business, Howard’s Muffler Shop that he owned and operated for many years until his retirement.
Howard’s first wife, Alma “Pat”, the mother of his children, passed away in 2000. Then on March 16, 2001, he and Betty Irons were married in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. They were blessed with 18 years of love and happiness. Howard also enjoyed country music and playing the guitar. Some of his favorite artists were Bob Wills, Kenny Rogers, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Glenn Campbell, and Roy Clark just to name a few. He and Betty expressed their love for music together for about 12 years with Howard on the guitar and Betty on the fiddle.
Survivors include his wife, Betty of the home; four children, Debbie Oliver of Manford, Oklahoma, Art Anderson of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Bill Anderson and wife Teri of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, and Cecilia Ley and husband Larry of Stillwater, Oklahoma; one sister, Modena Axton of Stillwater, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, Blake, Sarah, Hannah, Courtney, Tia, Stephanie, Tessa, and Jacob; and many great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Alma “Pat” Anderson; and one son, Steve Anderson.
