Imogene Gene Myers, 82, of Mulhall passed from this life on Friday, October 25, 2013 with her loving family by her side. Services have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home and a graveside service celebrating her life will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, October 29 at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Mulhall with Paul Anderson officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 8am to 8pm.
Gene was born on Dec 8, 1930 to Vernis and Thelma McMannis Adkins in Collinsville, OK. She attended Collinsville High School. On February 14, 1950 she married her best friend and lifelong love, Harrison Jr. Myers. Their love story lasted 51 years, ending only due to Jrs death. Jr and Gene lived in Blackwell and Kildare, OK and Wichita, KS before settling in Mulhall to be closer to their family.
Gene spent her life as a homemaker. She raised her grandchildren and great grandchildren while their mothers and fathers worked. Gene was saved and baptized as a teenager in Collinsville at the Assembly of God Church and served and worshiped God all her life. She loved watching westerns, musicals, and the Wizard of Oz. She loved to eat chocolate and her family attributes her long life to her diet of milk and cookies, which she ate after every meal and often for snacks.
Gene, known to family and friends as Granny, was a pillar of strength and the cornerstone of her family. Even though she had raised multiple generations of her family, she never raised her voice. She made the best out of every situation and she never complained about anything. She was very caring, selfless and she was the definition of unconditional love. While she may not have agreed with every decision that her family and friends made, she could always be trusted to give good advice and be non-judgmental. She left an unmistakable mark on the lives of many people and she will be missed by all who knew her.
Granny was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jr., daughter Glenda Prince, brother Virgil Adkins and half-brother Gary Adkins. She is survived by her son-in-law Jake Prince of Mulhall. Grandchildren: Christy Neece of Enid. Rusty Prince and wife Vanessa, of Mulhall. Brian Prince and wife Lisa, of Wichita, KS. Great grandchildren: Anthony Neece, Justina Neece, Colt Grimes, Isabella Prince, and Gavin Prince. Great Great Grandchildren: Hunter and Amariana. Sister Wanda Francis. Half-sisters Verna Jean Sellers and Dorothy Sunday. Half-brothers Ronald Adkins, Donnie Adkins, Lonnie Adkins, and Larry Adkins. And step-sister Mary Ann Dycus.
The family wishes to thank Jake and Shirley for the wonderful loving care and attention that gave Granny over the past several months. Their compassion and kindness helped make her last days more comfortable and the family is grateful for that.
