Iva went to be with her Lord on July 10. Iva was born July 16, 1921 in Pawnee, and graduated from Pawnee High School. Iva was the fifth of nine children born to James Labon and Fannie (Spiller) Bowman.
Iva met the love of her life, Cecil Wilson Karraker, on a blind double date her sister, Ruth set up. At this time, Iva was working as a long distance switchboard operator in Pawnee. On May 14, 1943 in Newkirk, OK, Iva married Cecil who was on an Army furlough during WWII.
For about the first year, Cecil was stationed to stateside military bases. Iva followed Cecil and worked at various jobs in AZ, North Carolina, Florida and GA.
When Cecil was shipped overseas in 1944, Iva drove back to OK where Cheathams Stores hired her. Iva was employed by Ermys and Cheathams Stores for 46 years. She worked for 3 generations of the Cheatham family (Ermy, Jim and Keith). Iva was the first buyer/supervisor of Cheathams Grocery Store and retired when she was in her 70s.
After the war was over, they made their home in Pawnee and Cecil retired in 1978 as the Foreman of OK Highway Department in Pawnee County.
While living in Pawnee, they square danced and belonged to the Stillwater Wagon Wheel Club. They held various offices and served as delegates to the State Confederation of Square Dancers. Plus, they round danced and were members of the Star Light Twirler. The family vacationed in all the continental states plus Canada and old Mexico. They belonged to the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ where Cecil was a deacon.
In 1979 they built a home and moved to Stillwater to be closer to their children. After Cecils death, Iva kept herself busy. Iva became a member and officer of the North Star group of HCE until it dissolved. Iva then joined the Cherokee group of Payne County HCE. Iva taught a Sunday school class and member of Crosspointe Church. Iva held various offices with the Stillwater Porcelain Club until it dissolved. Iva made and dressed China dolls for her family. Iva was an excellent cook and seamstress. Iva made beautiful embroidery bathroom towel sets. Plus, she made quilts for her children. On election days, Iva worked at Roxie Weber.
