James D. Martin passed away peacefully at his home in Stillwater on Saturday, August 25, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was 64. Funeral services have been entrusted to the care of Dighton-Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater.
A Celebration of life is scheduled for 10:30AM Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Countryside Church in Stillwater with Pastor Justin Beadles officiating. Interment will follow at Shamrock Cemetery in Shamrock, OK. Visitation will be 9AM to 8PM Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at Dighton-Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater. Family will greet guests from 6PM to 8PM.
James was born June 11, 1954 in Cushing, Oklahoma to William “Buddy” and Willeen (Fountain) Martin. He grew up in the Shamrock community and graduated from Drumright High School in 1972. Soon after graduating he became a lineman and worked for the city of Stroud for three years. On March 12, 1979 he married the love of his life Sue Moffit. They moved to Fairfax, Oklahoma where they made their home for the next 33 years. He earned his Journeyman lineman certification and retired from Indian Electric as Foreman in 2010 after 30 years of service. He and Sue were very active in the First Baptist Church of Fairfax. James always had a heart for young people. Together he and Sue worked in the children and youth ministries for several years helping wherever they could and teaching Sunday School classes when needed. He served on the Fairfax school board for 10 years and was very active in the Fairfax FFA program.
They moved to Stillwater in 2012 to enjoy their retirement and be closer to their family. He was a current member of Countryside Church in Stillwater. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time on the greens. His Faith in God and his family were his greatest loves. He made many memories while spending time with his children and grandchildren that his family will cherish for many years.
Survivors include his loving wife Sue of the home; and his daughters, Sarah Dorsey, Rebecca McLaughlin and husband Michael of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Lindsey Carter and husband Branson also of Edmond, Oklahoma, Elena Zaivoronko of Germany; three grandchildren, Abigail Sue McLaughlin, Emma Christine McLaughlin, and Eli James McLaughlin all of Edmond, Oklahoma; one brother, John Martin and wife Sheila of Cushing, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents.
