James Devoe Delk

James Devoe Delk, 73, of Drumright passed away on November 13, 2021. Arrangements have been entrusted to Dighton Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater. He will be laid to rest on Friday November 19, 2021, at Fairlawn Cemetery in Stillwater following a 2:00 PM Funeral Service at Dighton Marler Funeral Home Chapel, 5106 N. Washington, Stillwater, Oklahoma. Viewing will be Thursday November 18, 2021, from 9 AM to 8 PM with the family greeting guest from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
James was born on December 27, 1947, in Drummond, Tennessee to William Lee and Bertha Warrene (Owen) Delk. He was one of five children and loved being out of doors, hunting, fishing, and gardening; hobbies he continued into adulthood. He also enjoyed singing, his pets, a good movie and most of all his grandkids!
Following graduating from Trezevant High School in the class of 1967, James joined the US Navy, then later also served in the Air Force Reserves and US Army. He married Saundra Smith on September 6, 1969, and to this union four children were added. Due to his military career the family moved around the country but ultimately the family settled in the Stillwater area where he worked for Kicker in the maintenance department.
James is survived by children Tonya Ames and husband Jimmy of Stillwater, OK, Tony Delk of Atlanta, GA, Dawn McDonough and husband Mikel of Drumright, OK and Tara Abbott and husband Richard of Stillwater. He is also survived by grandchildren Helen (Brent) Webb, Zach (Kimberly) Ames, Jacob Ames, Michael Ames, Lilly Delk, Jessica Delk, Bayleigh Reynolds, Gabriel Abbott, Liam Abbott, Erik Abbott, Devoe Abbott and three great-grand-children: Annabelle Webb, Talon Webb and Stella Mae Ames.
He is also survived by siblings Bertha Pruitt of Covington, TN, William Delk of Durant, OK, Florence Coker of Covington, TN, and Benny Delk of Covington, TN. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and two infant great-grand-daughters.
