James Theodore Kuhn

James Theodore Kuhn, age 90, of Glencoe, Oklahoma passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2025 in Pawnee.  Funeral services have been entrusted to the care of Dighton-Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater.

He was the son of Clarence A. "Red" Kuhn and the former Goldie Marie Stahl, born on August 1, 1934 in Enid, Oklahoma.  In 1948 he moved with his parents to the Glencoe community.

During his time on earth James wore many hats.  He was a student, graduating from Glencoe High School in 1952 and Oklahoma A&M in 1956.

He was a husband, who married the former Darlene Courtright in June 3, 1956 at the United Methodist Church in Glencoe, he was a father to three sons, James F., Jeffery A., and Jon D., and one daughter, Cynthis M., he was a veteran of the United States Navy, honorably serving his country for 21 years on active duty and as a reserve member where he retired with the rank of Commander on his birthday, August 1, 1934.  He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

James was a long-time farmer/rancher in the Glencoe area and was presented the Goodyear Conservation Award for outstanding accomplishments in resource conservation in Payne County, Oklahoma for the years 1982, 1987, 1993, 1996, and 2002.  In 1990 the James Kuhn family was named Oklahoma Farm Bureau's Payne County Farm Family of the Year.

In 2010, he received a Payne County 40-year District Conservation Award.  Then in April 2019, he received the Governor's Conservation award.  He was also the recipient of a Resources and Conversation Development award for 20 years of excellence in conservation.  In addition, James was a two-time Honorary Chapter Farmer, a recognition awarded by the Glencoe FFA chapter.

James was a member of the Masonic Lodge and formerly served as District Deputy Grand Master.  He received his 50-year Masonic membership pin in 2011.

Well-known and respected in the Glencoe community, James was a janitor and bus driver for Glencoe Public Schools, member of the Glencoe Alumni and Former Students and Teachers Association, member of the Glencoe United Methodist Church and served as church treasurer for many years; served on the Glencoe City Park Board was active at the Glencoe Senior Citizens Center.

He received the Oklahoma President's Award on November 14, 2015 to recognize him for helping build the spirit of horseshoe pitching in the state.

James is survived by his sons, Dr. James F. Kuhn and Patty Runge, Jeffrey A. Kuhn and wife Jean, and Jon D. Kuhn and wife Renae; daughter, Cynthia M. Allen and husband, Doyne; grandsons, Jon E. Kuhn and wife Diana, and Andrew Kuhn; granddaughter, Cassandera Hughes and husband Ryan; great-grandsons, Abel Kuhn, Jonah Kuhn, Liam Hughes and Finley Hughes; and a cousin, Bruce Stahl.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Darlene on November 13, 2022.

A viewing will be help on Monday, April 28, 2025 from 2PM until 8PM at Dighton-Marler Funeral Home in Stillwater.  A Celebration of James' life will be at the First United Methodist Church in Glencoe at 10:30AM Tuesday, April 29, 2025 with Jeff Kuhn officiating.  Pallbearers will be Bob Vandeford, Russell Andrews, Alfred Hite, Jon E. Kuhn, Andrew Kuhn, and Kelly Wheatley.  Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Sappington, Dean Courtright, Doyne Allen, and Bruce Stahl.  Interment will follow at Glencoe South Cemetery.
