James Otto Davis

September 4, 1937 — December 24, 2013

James Otto Davis, 76, of Glencoe passed from this life on Dec. 24, 2013 with his family by his side. Services have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home and a service celebrating James life will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014 at the Stillwater Community of Christ at 2124 N Husband St.
James was born on Sept. 4, 1937 to Seletha Lorrine Goodwin and Jesse Otto Davis in Oilton, OK. He was raised and attended schools in the Tulsa area and graduated from Tulsa Webster High School in 1955. During his senior year, James managed the science lab and his love for teaching and lab management would lead to a successful career later in his life.
James Davis was not afraid of hard work. He started working in the Oilfields at the age of 16 as a pipeliner. Following high school graduation, James continued his schooling and also served in the United States Air Force. He spent several years working for Bethlehem Steel in Tulsa as a machinist. In 1961, James married and had his only son, Jimmy Don Davis. In the late 80s, James relocated to the Glencoe area to be near his parents. In the early 90s, James went to work at OK State University as the research lab director for the School of Mechanical And Aerospace Engineering, before retiring in 2008.
James spent many years caring for his ailing father and working on the family farm. Shortly before his fathers death, James promised him he would take care of the family farm and would look after his aging mother and for many years he done just that. James top priority was caring for his mother and at 94 years of age and with a heavy heart, Lorrine has said goodbye to both of her sons.
James was a kind and intelligent man who was passionate about helping students understand concepts and lean to be effective problem solvers. He was a dedicated lab manager and took students all over the nation to display the cars and other projects they built while at OSU. James was generous, organized, and patient. He spent many years as a volunteer with the Ingalls Fire Department. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, raising cattle, and tending farm sales and auctions. James was a loving son, father, grandfather, and friend and he will be missed by all who knew him.
James Davis was preceded in death by his father and a brother Donald Wayne Davis. He is survived by his mother Lorrine, of the home; a son Jimmy Don Davis and wife Carol Kelly of Glencoe; a grandson Branden Davis of Glencoe, and a nephew Neil Davis of Tulsa.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in James name to the Ingalls Fire District PO BOX 2085 Stillwater, OK 74076.
