James T. Smith

Funeral services for James Troy Smith, age 77, of Perry, OK are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church with Gus Jacobi officiating. Interment will be in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Mr. Smith was born on June 17, 1932 to Ralph and Emma (Morris) Smith in Mountain Home, Arkansas. He grew up and attended school in Mansfield, MO and in Wichita, KS. He joined the United States Army at the age of 17, and served his country in Germany during the Korean Conflict and received his GED while in the military. James worked for the Wilson Meat Packing Co. and later worked for Scrivner Trucking Co. where he worked as a truck driver for 25 years. His hobbies included; bowling, water skiing, guns, playing cards at the community center. Mr. Smith was a very faithful Christian and he loved the Lord. James passed from this life to be with his Lord and Savior on October 18, 2009 in Perry, OK. He is survived by; one son, Shawn Michael Smith of Perry, OK; one daughter, Debbie Colleen Abrell and husband John of Piedmont, OK; one sister, Willa Dean Hulet and husband Arthur of Stillwater, OK; six grandchildren, Brian Smith, Amber Dawn Streeter, Emma Angeline Smith, James Troy Smith, Jocelyn Amber Rohrer and Janelle Rachelle Fowler; three great grandchildren, Audrena Smith, Jordan Streeter and Dawson Streeter, nephews Dana Hulet and wife Glenda, Tim Hulet and wife Faye, niece Jana Hounchell and husband Jerry, great niece January Riggs, great nephews Jeremiah and Sidney Hulet, Terence and Travis Hulet, Thane, Ian and Duncan Hounchell. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be made to the American Legion c/o Perry Funeral Home 203 E. Fir, Perry, OK 73077. Services have entrusted to Perry Funeral Home.
